My story
I'm Evelio Barazarte, violinist in Catching Cultures Orchestra. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela—a country full of rhythm, color, and a rich mix of indigenous, African, and European influences. Music runs in my family: my grandfather was a composer and violinist, and my father played the flute as an amateur. I began my own musical journey singing in a children's choir and then playing the cuatro, a small Venezuelan guitar with four strings. At thirteen, I chose the violin, and it has remained my great love ever since. My formal music education began in Caracas, within the renowned Venezuelan Youth Orchestra system. There, I developed into a professional violinist and later earned my bachelor's and master's degrees in music. I then lived in Colombia for a long time before coming to the Netherlands. There, I came across Catching Cultures Orchestra on Instagram and was immediately touched by their mission and their music. Shortly after, I decided to get in touch – and so my adventure with the orchestra began. Besides playing music, I also love painting and enjoy art in all its forms.
