My story
I started playing the erhu when I was nine, through my grandmother. I fell in love with this instrument because it has an almost human voice, can express deep emotions, and fits into both traditional and contemporary music. Music has always been a way for me to connect with culture and emotion. My roots lie in Chinese classical music, but later I began to explore and play other traditions. Nine years ago, I came to the Netherlands and performed with the band Arifa. It was my first trip outside China and my first encounter with world music. That opened my horizons and changed my path as a musician. For example, during my studies at Codarts, I immersed myself in Turkish music for two years and played in a tango orchestra. In early 2023, I searched online for world music orchestras in the Netherlands and found CCO. I was invited to visit, and there was an immediate chemistry, and I never left.
